Divorce Parenting Seminar 

If your divorce case involves minor children, Georgia requires both parents are to take a Divorce Parenting Seminar class. Each county is responsible for creating its own version of the Divorce Parenting Seminar. Parents can complete the seminar during the divorce process by attending in person at the county their case resides in. The guideline given by the Georgia Civil Code to the counties for the divorce seminar is supposed to help teach the parents how children are affected by divorce. 

Requirements by County 

Cobb County: 

• The cost to take the seminar is fifty dollars.  
• A parent must register beforehand for the class. 
•  Cobb County offers classes in the morning and evening. Online Parenting Seminar classes are not accepted.
• The class needs to be completed after the case is initiated but before the case is closed.

Fulton County:

• The cost is thirty dollars.
• The county offers an in-person class in the morning and evening. There is also an online class available as well.
• A parent must pre-register.
• The county offers the seminar in English and Spanish.
• Both parties are required to attend the parenting seminar within 30 days of the Court Order being served to the Defendant.

Cherokee County: 

• The cost to register is fifty dollars and it must be paid by money order.
• To register arrive at the seminar 30 minutes early.
• The county offers the seminar in English and Spanish.
• A judge will not grant a final divorce until both parents have attended the seminar.

Bartow County:

• The cost of the seminar is sixty dollars and twenty dollars for Medicaid recipients.
• Registration for the seminar takes place 30 minutes before the seminar begins.
• The seminar must be completed before the judge will finalize the divorce.
• It only offers classes on Saturday mornings.

The content for the seminar is to help teach the parents how children are affected by divorce. All parenting seminars are four hours long.  It is important to have a form of identification with you when you attend.
